Cat's Valerian, Setwell

Valeriana oficinalis
Mackinac County, June 20, 2000
This variety of Valeriana was found growing wild in the interior of Mackinac Island. Herbalists call it Setwall; however, that name became Setwell in America. Since antiquity, the root has been used as a sedative. Cats are known to dig it up as they like to chew on the roots.
